Peter & Anthea Hoffmann bought their 'Piece of Paradise' at McLaren Flat in 1978.
It consisted of an old stone cottage in need of repair, a vineyard planted to Currants for drying and Shiraz and Cabernet wine grapes.
In time the cottage was renovated, the vineyard revamped and small parcels of wine were made for private use.
In 1995, the next logical step was taken and under the skillful hand of Nick Holmes as contract winemaker, commercial quantities of wine were produced.A Cellar door was opened on the property in 1996.
The Cellar door is surrounded by vineyard and the atmosphere is intimate, visitors can relax under a vine covered courtyard which compliments the tasting room.
With classical music in the background, Cellardoor conversations extend far beyond wine to include food, music, gardening and some times a little history.
The Cellar door boasts a loyal following established over many years based on the quality of the wines and personal attention from the owners.
Hoffmann's wines are only available in Australia from Cellar door or by specialist order, a small but growing export market has been established with wines going to Canada, USA and the UK
