Sevenhill Cellars in the Clare Valley was settled by the Jesuit priests in 1851 making it the oldest winery in the Clare Valley. The settlement includes the magnificent Anglo gothic St Aloysius Church, the Jesuit residence as well as the historic Winery complete with underground cellar. The buildings are surrounded by vineyards and a large lawn area, perfect for picnics and relaxation.

The initial purpose of the cellars was to provide sacramental wine for religious use. In the 1930?s they began producing table and fortified wines and now have a large range of both which can be sampled at the historic Cellar Door. Sevenhill has over 70 hectares of vines, growing 20 different grape varieties in all.

Whilst visiting Sevenhill, visitors are invited to explore the historic sites, most of which are still in use. Visitors can either book a guided tour with Brother John May or do a self guided tour. The guided tour is of approximately 1 hours duration and includes the Underground Cellar which was excavated in the 1850?s, 130 year old shiraz vines and the St Ignatius of Loyola and Marian Shrines. There is also the magnificent St Aloysius Church which features Mintaro slate floors and exquisite stained-glass windows, a crypt located underneath the Church which is the resting place for 41 Jesuits, the Jesuit residence and the historic cemetery. Guided tours take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays and cost $5 per person. Private tours can be arranged at other times for groups of 10 or more.

On completion of the tour, visitors are invited to sample the large range of Sevenhill wines in Cellar Door and wander through the adjacent Sevenhill Museum.
